MEDICATION MANAGMENT
Helping you stay well
Adherence is the extent to which a person's behaviour corresponds with agreed-upon recommendations from a health care provider. Patients' non-adherence to medications leads to poor health outcomes and costs the Canadian health care system billions of dollars every year.
Poor adherence to medications, especially for chronic diseases, is determinate to health outcomes. Theses conditions include coronary artery disease, hypertension, dyslipidemia, osteoporosis, asthma, diabetes, dementia and others. Furthermore non-adhernace can mislead healthcare providers into believing that patients require further clinical intervention, or additional medication (because health outcomes do not seem to improve). Either assumption risk lack of reinforcement on proper use of current therapy, resulting in a potentially endless cycle of poor adherence and poor outcomes.
